Tips to prepare for your season on the other side of the ocean
The time to cross the Atlantic and look forward to the warm and welcoming Caribbean waters is around the corner and at Evolution, we would like to share some considerations with you so you can best prepare for the upcoming season.

On my boat or on your boat?
There are different ways of crossing the great Atlantic Ocean. Depending on your type of vessel, you might be crossing independently or contracting the services of a transatlantic yacht carrier. Depending on the size of your yacht and whether it’s a sailing or a motor yacht, you need to plan your route beforehand. It’s important to note, that the journey can take up to 15 days, and that the shortest route might not be the best due to the weather and the storms.
Don’t miss that good snack!
Fresh produce such as fruits are very important during long crossings and obviously hard to come by mid-ocean so stock up! Contact your supplier of choice in advance, so you can get this and all those goodies that you love in time for your departure. Bunker now so you can smile later!
Until the methanol fuel cells or the electric batteries are advanced enough to allow a superyacht to cross the Atlantic without fuel, bunkering is one of the last jobs to cross off the list before leaving Europe. Whether plain diesel or HVO is required, the tanks should be full. The best prices are of course available in the strategic destination of Gibraltar, the gateway to the Mediterranean. Keep all your papers in order.
If crossing the Atlantic wasn’t in itself intense and complicated enough, the documents needed to access certain parts of the Caribbean could make it even more laborious. Make sure your crew all have valid B1B2 Visas, check the requested documents for your final destination, or the countries you are visiting, have an extra courtesy flag and if you need some advice, contact with a Customs expert to double check everything for you.

Even though COVID isn´t at the forefront of cruising and berthing considerations anymore there are other diseases out there. Do double check with agents at your destination that restrictions don´t apply, there still may be some requirements for clearance such as Maritime Declaration of Health forms or proof of vaccination.
