Alfons Esteve, Evolution’s International Maritime Lawyer who is specialized in the superyacht industry, briefly reviews the various options for non-EU citizens to can stay and/or in Spain.
1. As a tourist. No more than 90 days out of 180 days (that means a total of 180 days in a year). Depending on the nationality, a visa may or may not be required.
2. Non-lucrative visa. This is a residence visa that will allow the applicant to live in Spain without working (Valid for one year, when renewed it would be for 2 years and the applicant can continue to renew it every 2 years). To renew, the applicant needs to spend a minimum of 184 days in Spain per year.
3. Self-employed visa. This is a residence and work visa as a self-employed person (Valid for one year. When renewed it would be for 2 years and the applicant can continue to renew it every 2 years). The applicant will need to present a business plan explaining in full their proposed business in Spain.
4. Work visa as an employee of a Spanish company. This is a residence and work visa as an employee in Spain (Valid for one year. When renewed it would be for 2 years and the applicant can continue to renew it every 2 years). The applicant needs to be sponsored by a Spanish company.
5. Investor’s visa (Golden visa). This is a residence and work visa that will allow the applicant to live and work (if he/she wants to) in Spain (Valid for two years. When renewed it would be for 5 years and the applicant then can keep renewing every 5 years). To renew it, the applicant only needs to come to Spain once a year. To apply for it the applicant needs to invest a minimum of 500,000.00 Euros in real estate in Spain.
