Discover the vibrant city of Malaga and its new marina

Sep 21, 2022

IGY Malaga Marina, the new Megayacht port right in the heart of Malaga.

Malaga is located in the south of the Iberian Peninsula, and it’s also known as the capital of the Costa del Sol. This fresh and modern city that combines beach, history, art, and life will allow you to find its culture, both at street level, in its monuments of Arab and Roman origin, and in its many museums. Having 320 sunny days per year, its beaches, golf camps, shops and picturesque cafes will make Malaga the perfect Superyacht destination.

One of the most emblematic monuments of Malaga is the Alcazaba, a fortified palace built in the XI century for the Muslim rulers which remained unconquered throughout its existence. Next to the Alcazaba, you can find Gibralfaro Castle, which is connected to the first one through a steep mountain hall. Another important archaeological monument that you can find near the Alcazaba, is the Roman theatre, which was built in the first century and it’s one of the oldest that can be found in Andalusia.

The Cathedral of Malaga, known by the local residents as “La Manquita” (the one handed) as it’s missing its second tower, even if its construction started in the 16th century.

You can’t leave Malaga without visiting the Picasso Museum, doing some shopping on Larios Street and, of course, tasting its rich cuisine. We recommend you give a try to sardine spits in a beach club where you can relax and complete your visit to the city.

If you are planning to visit Malaga with your Superyacht, you can’t miss the opportunity of berthing right in the heart of the city. That’s where IGY Malaga Marina is located.

Officially inaugurated during this summer, IGY Malaga Marina is a dedicated Megayacht marina that offers 33 berths for yachts from 30 to 180 metres. At least, two of those moorings are exclusively dedicated to vessels from 100 metres. At the moment, the biggest vessel berthed in the Marina, had a length of 141 metres.

In the building process of one of the docks, the ECOncrete technology has been used, which is concrete, with some additives and special shapes that enhances the proliferation of the sea life.

Also, the marina has installed the SEABIN device, which is a floating bin that picks up plastics from the sea. It is estimated, that by the end of the year, the SEABIN will collect about 1,4 tons of waste.

The marina users will be able to open the access doors with their mobile devices to make it easier and avoid the use of cards or other opening methods.

IGY Malaga Marina provides a gateway to the lively promenade which is full of cafes, restaurants, and handicraft shops. Both the beach and the historical city centre are about 200 metres from the marina, and the international airport is just a 20 min drive away.
